2024 One Family, One Dish Event

By Lucy Liou, Chair of Hakka Association of New York

On June 30, 2024, Hakka Association of New York hosted its annual One Family, One Dish event at Cunningham Park. The meticulous planning and teamwork of Vice Presidents Kuei-Jung Liu and Chia-Ling Liu, along with the board members, ensured the event’s smooth execution and success, attracting over 120 participants.

In addition to enjoying a variety of homemade Hakka delicacies, the event fostered a strong sense of community among members. Attendees shared conversations and heartfelt greetings, finding a comforting sense of belonging and warmth connected to Taiwan and Hakka culture, even in New York.

The association’s UN NGO team members, Isabelle Chiang (Director of Integrated Marketing) and Emma Chang (Social Media Manager), updated attendees on the successful launch of the association’s quarterly newsletter. They also took the opportunity to collect members’ email addresses for future newsletter distribution.

Although this event was an informal family gathering with no special guest invitations, the presence of several notable community leaders added to the event’s significance. Among the distinguished attendees were Hakka elder and former Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association President Kuei-Yuan Hsiao, Taiwanese Center for Seniors President Yu-Hua Chi, Taiwanese American Conference Chairperson Ying-Chun Lin and her husband Abo, TAA Vice Chair Ming-Yi Dai, Senior Citizens’ Love and Care Association President Yu-Ying Wang, FASCA Mentor Ya-Lin Weng, former Chinese American Academic and Professional Society Chair Ping-Tsai Chung, and music teacher Hui-Chin Wang. Their presence further enriched the event, making it a memorable occasion for all.
