This year’s Passport to Taiwan took place on May 26th at Union Square in New York. President Ai-Lin Chung, Chair Lucy Liou, and our dedicated board members and volunteers from the UN NGO Team put in great effort to introduce Hakka culture to a diverse audience through the experience of making traditional Hakka Lei Cha.
We shared our postcards featuring aspects of Hakka culture, such as Hakka spirit, mugwort cakes, Hakka Lei Cha, and Hakka printed cloth, with attendees from various places joining our Lei Cha experience.
Through interactions with attendees, we shared the authentic Hakka culture, highlighting that ‘Hakka’ represents not just an ethnic identity but a resilient way of life. We hope that this small initiative, starting from the Lei Cha booth at Passport to Taiwan, will spread the warm and profound Hakka spirit to every corner of the world, providing local and global Hakka people with a sense of belonging.
